Overcoming Self-Sabotage

Self-Sabotage happens when you start doing things (intentionally or unintentionally) that stop you or block you from reaching your fullest potential in Christ. God sees exactly where you are, and you can begin to self-sabotage His mission and purpose for your life when you start to operate in false humility. This false humility is usually out of a desire to be perceived as pure, free, and holy. And as you begin to seek the Lord to transform and renew your mind, this desire to be seen as pure, holy and free can hinder your movement and growth in Christ.

As believers, we tend to get in our own way. By doing this, we block ourselves from truly seeing the fullness of God manifested in our lives because of self-sabotage. There is a fine line between living your best life in the world and living your best life in Christ. Sometimes we can hinder the plans of God in “subtle” forms of deception through self sabotage while remaining completely unaware that we are doing this.

A very common example of self-sabotage is procrastination. When you procrastinate, what happens is that you don’t realize that you are unintentionally delaying your own success and progress. This success and progress comes by completing a task or project that can build you up. The task or project can be something that builds you up spiritually, emotionally, physically or even financially. Unfortunately, the delay that happens when you procrastinate is usually out of fear (e.g. fear of failure, fear of success, fear of the future, etc.).  Remember, if you choose to delay completing a task, instruction or assignment that God has given you, this can also delay the results of your obedience or how quickly you receive the results of your obedience to God.

This is why it is very important to have accountability, and to walk in obedience with God because disobedience can put you in a position to self sabotage the plans of God for your life. So, if you think you have been sabotaging your life, then seek the Holy Spirit and ask him to put you back on track. Ask him to fix what has been broken, to take the blinders off and to help you grow with him personally. The Holy Spirit sees where you are at, so be transparent and honest with him. The self-sabotaging stops today!
